Overview

We seek a dedicated Data Center Critical Environment Technician Manager committed to fostering an inclusive workplace that enriches our culture daily. This role is vital in supporting the infrastructure behind Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation, powering services such as Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop teams through empowerment and accountability, embodying company culture and leadership values.
  • Coach team members by setting objectives, enabling cross-functional success, and supporting adaptability and learning.
  • Attract, retain, and invest in talent by understanding individual strengths and career goals.
  • Act as an operations expert in one or more areas such as electrical, mechanical, or controls systems, managing advanced tasks independently.
  • Supervise inspection routines for critical environment equipment and facilities to detect unsafe or abnormal conditions and analyze trends.
  • Monitor maintenance and operational performance via telemetry and control systems, promptly identifying all alarms.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management systems to track equipment, manage work orders, and produce reports identifying outstanding tasks.
  • Lead incident response teams to address and correct abnormal operational conditions safely and efficiently.
  • Develop and follow emergency operating, method, and standard operating procedures related to incidents.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and compile incident reports with timelines and recommended actions.
  • Oversee and participate in planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance across disciplines, escalating issues appropriately.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for specific equipment types, guiding troubleshooting and daily operations.
  • Coordinate and supervise third-party contractors and service providers, ensuring compliance with safety and procedural standards.
  • Promote safety and security practices, ensuring compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Address unsafe conditions immediately and maintain safe working environments.
  • Assess resources and equipment necessary to support environmental health and safety objectives.
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and knowledge transfers.
  • Embody company values and culture consistently.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent with at least 3 years of mission-critical service experience in environments such as data centers, manufacturing, hospitals, or related fields; or equivalent experience.
  • Willingness and ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must pass Microsoft's Cloud background check upon hire and biennially thereafter.
  • Must be either a New Zealand citizen holding a NZ Passport or have NZ Permanent Residency Visa due to government clearance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 6+ years mission-critical service experience or Associate’s Degree/technical certification with 5+ years experience.
  • At least 1 year experience in people management.
  • 1+ year of specialized experience in fields such as mechanical, electrical, or controls.
