Role Overview

This role oversees the entire portfolio of New Product Development (NPD) projects from initial concept through to market launch. It involves close collaboration with global teams based in the UK, Singapore, and Malaysia, working across functions including NPI/NPD RDD Designers, Commercial Marketing, Engineering, Procurement, Operations, and Finance. The position reports to the Senior Cost Manager and is based in Singapore.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead governance and optimization of product costs, ensuring cost targets and profitability objectives for NPD projects are met.
  • Deliver timely, accurate, and insightful product cost analyses to support project milestones, financial evaluations, change management, and risk/opportunity assessments.
  • Develop cost build-up estimates for new Research Design and Development projects, analyzing multiple design alternatives to minimize costs.
  • Promote a cost-conscious culture within the cross-functional team, improving transparency and accountability related to product costs.
  • Collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders—Designers, Engineering, Operations, Procurement, Finance—to challenge and meet demanding cost targets.
  • Manage monthly reporting cycles to track product cost changes and related risks or opportunities throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Drive continuous improvements in processes, data management, and team capabilities.
  • Communicate effectively with urgency to address product cost challenges.

Leadership Duties

  • Lead the global NPD portfolio within the product category and actively participate as a member of the Project Leadership Team.
  • Potential to assume people management responsibilities as the organization grows.

Knowledge & Specialist Skills

  • Ability to combine strategic thinking with operational planning, setting KPIs to achieve success.
  • Govern detailed “should cost” analyses to validate supplier quotations and ensure cost targets are met.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing techniques including plastic injection molding, metal extrusion/stamping, rubber over-molding, and electronics PCB assembly.
  • Experience with Value-Engineering concepts to optimize designs.
  • Strong analytical skills to generate actionable cost insights.
  • Expertise in evaluating cost-reduction opportunities and make-or-buy decisions.
  • Capability to manage complex product designs and influence senior leadership stakeholders.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the global NPD portfolio across multiple regions including UK, Singapore, and Malaysia.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams encompassing designers, marketing, engineering, procurement, operations, and finance.

Candidate Profile

  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, evolving global environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, capable of uniting diverse groups with competing priorities towards shared objectives.
  • Holds an engineering, manufacturing, or cost accounting degree with over 5 years’ experience in product cost engineering.
  • Experienced in managing change and implementing new processes or ways of working.
  • Excellent communication skills with proven leadership and influencing ability.
