Salary Details

Position Summaries and Responsibilities

Computer Technician I

Working under immediate supervision, this entry-level role emphasizes maintaining computers and limited local area networks. Tasks primarily include software installations, component replacements, and occasional system troubleshooting. Responsibilities also cover physical handling of equipment, basic wiring tasks, and upholding confidentiality regarding school information.

Computer Technician II

Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, this role involves skilled work with networks (LAN and WAN) and various computer systems. The technician performs complex software configurations and maintenance, assists with server upkeep, and contributes to equipment and software evaluation.

Computer Technician III

This experienced position entails technical expertise and some supervisory duties over lower-level technicians. Duties include advanced system repairs, network maintenance, server management, coordinating lab configurations, vendor negotiations, and overseeing special equipment management.

Computer Technician IV

As a senior role under the Director of Information Technology, this position demands expert-level knowledge and leadership over technical personnel. It includes handling the most challenging repair and installation tasks on computers, servers, and network equipment, supervising team members, managing district-wide technology improvements, and potentially acting as the Network Director.

Qualifications

Common Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid State of Alaska driver’s license without insurance restrictions
• Ability to work well with students, staff, parents, and the public
• Capacity to lift up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 70 pounds occasionally
• Maintain confidentiality of students, staff, and school matters

Level Specific Qualifications

• Technician I: General computer and networking knowledge, ability to work independently on basic tasks, potential to learn and improve skills through on-the-job training
• Technician II: Skilled in troubleshooting hardware/software, working knowledge of district software, A+ certification or equivalent
• Technician III: Advanced computer and LAN knowledge, A+ and MCSE certifications or equivalent, ability to interpret technical documentation, supervisory experience
• Technician IV: Expert-level IT knowledge including networking and cross-platform systems, A+ and MCSE certifications, minimum two years as Technician III with the district, recommended for advancement by supervisor

Additional Details

Work locations include village school sites as assigned. Technicians must perform tasks neatly and professionally while often functioning with general to minimal supervision depending on level.
