Job Overview
This position is located at NPS Melbourne HSE Stoke-on-Trent, ST1 5RQ. As a Community Payback Supervisor, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals serving community sentences, ensuring their unpaid work is completed effectively and safely, thereby making positive contributions to the local community.
Key Responsibilities
- Directly supervise groups of offenders during their community payback unpaid work placements.
- Drive service vehicles when transporting people or equipment as required.
- Lead small teams in performing manual tasks such as clearing overgrown areas, restoring community facilities (e.g. sports halls, playgrounds), planting trees, laying flowerbeds, litter picking, and graffiti removal.
- Provide clear demonstrations and guidance to service users to ensure tasks are completed to standard.
- Work up to 7 hours on-site daily, including frequent weekend and occasional evening shifts depending on project schedules.
- Maintain wellbeing by adapting to variable work patterns where normal rest breaks may not be standard.
Essential Requirements
- Possession of a full UK Manual Driving Licence is mandatory; applications from holders of only an automatic licence will not be accepted.
- Right to work in the UK and the Civil Service is required; applicants must comply with nationality rules governing civil servants.
- Successful candidates must undergo criminal record and personnel security clearance checks.
- Empathy, strong communication skills, and leadership ability to manage diverse teams effectively.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule to accommodate community payback project operations seven days a week, including frequent weekends.

- Starting salary of £28,064 pro-rata for part-time roles, with annual progression based on competence.
