College Internal Auditor

Position Overview

Mount Mary University is seeking a qualified College Internal Auditor to support independent assurance and advisory work across the institution. The role is focused on strengthening risk management, internal controls, governance, and operational efficiency so the college can meet its objectives effectively.

Key Duties

• Set up and maintain a sound financial control framework that operates efficiently and effectively.
• Review spending to confirm that all costs are approved and remain within budget limits.
• Examine proposed expenditures to verify compliance with internal controls and applicable statutory requirements.
• Assess whether accounting, financial, and operational controls are dependable and sufficient.
• Check college processes to determine whether outcomes align with approved goals and objectives.
• Track adherence to established policies, plans, and procedures.
• Evaluate the performance quality of staff and others responsible for assigned duties.
• Review the protection and accounting of assets to reduce the risk of loss.
• Ensure that accurate records support the preparation of financial and other information used for decision-making.
• Report weaknesses, duplicated work, wastage, and inefficiencies to the Principal, along with practical recommendations for correction.
• Conduct special examinations of accounting and internal control systems to reduce vulnerabilities.

Qualification and Experience

• A strong first degree or an equivalent qualification is required, together with a relevant professional certification and a master’s degree in a related field.
• The applicant must belong to a recognized professional accountancy body and also be a member of an internal or professional auditors’ institute.
• Candidates should have at least 4 years of experience as a Deputy Internal Auditor in a College of Education or in a similar post within a comparable institution or organization.

Additional Requirements

• Applicants should have solid IT skills and be comfortable working with financial systems.
• The role requires the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
• The successful candidate must be able to complete at least one 4-year term before reaching the compulsory retirement age of 60.
