About the Role
We are looking for an experienced CNC Machinist who prefers working on intricate, custom machining projects rather than repetitive mass production tasks. This position is with a long-established engineering company located in Christchurch, offering a range of challenging and diverse projects where you will convert engineering drawings into high-precision machined parts.
You will be machining various materials including engineering plastics, composite substances, and metals, using advanced CNC machinery and technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Programming CNC machinery based on engineering blueprints
- Developing and refining CAM software programs
- Setting up and operating CNC milling and turning machines
- Producing precision components that meet strict tolerance requirements
- Performing quality inspections and verifying final products
- Selecting suitable tooling and machining methods
- Diagnosing and resolving issues in machining and programming
- Working closely with engineers and production teams
- Adhering to high safety standards and maintaining workshop cleanliness
Candidate Requirements
- Possession of a trade qualification in Machining, Fitting & Turning, Toolmaking, or related disciplines
- Demonstrated experience in CNC programming
- Strong background in operating CNC milling and turning equipment
- Ability to accurately read and analyze engineering drawings
- Comprehensive understanding of machining principles and tolerance standards
- Experience with CAM software applications
- Proactive mindset and excellent problem-solving skills
- Experience with machining engineering plastics will be considered a strong advantage
