Chief Financial Officer

Position Overview

Our client, a leading national homebuilding and construction company based in the Mid-Atlantic region, seeks an accomplished Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its senior leadership team. The CFO will act as a strategic counsel to the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior executives, providing key insights that influence corporate strategy, expansion plans, and shareholder value optimization. This role demands a visionary financial leader focused on enhancing processes, operational efficiency, and ensuring precise financial reporting. The CFO will establish scalable financial systems, controls, and procedures designed to support growth across multiple regions and manage increasing operational complexity.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee all financial operations across multiple company divisions, managing cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and reporting functions strategically.
• Maintain comprehensive adherence to all relevant federal, state, and local financial laws by continuously monitoring regulatory changes and updating policies and controls accordingly.
• Discover and evaluate new revenue opportunities by analyzing market trends, economic factors, and competition within the homebuilding and construction sectors.
• Partner with operational teams to assess business performance, streamline cost structures, and increase profitability through data-driven methods and process enhancements.
• Direct enterprise risk management by assessing financial liabilities, investments, and market-related risks, applying effective mitigation approaches.
• Develop and oversee key performance metrics and financial dashboards to track company performance, detect deviations early, and suggest corrective actions.
• Prepare and present detailed financial reports, forecasts, and strategic advice for executive and board member consideration.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting teams to foster a culture of accountability, growth, and excellence.
• Ensure the reliability and scalability of financial infrastructure, internal controls, and reporting systems compliant with regulatory bodies such as the FASB and IRS.
• Collaborate across departments to facilitate strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, capital procurement, and long-term growth initiatives.

Essential Qualifications and Expertise

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA and/or CFA certification is highly advantageous.
• Proven experience in senior financial leadership roles (CFO or similar) within the homebuilding, construction, or real estate development industries.
• Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, budgeting, forecasting, and audit processes, specifically aligned with industry practices.
• Demonstrated success in driving operational efficiency, cost optimization, and establishing scalable financial frameworks.
• Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving capabilities able to translate complex financial information into actionable business strategies.
• Proven ability to build and lead effective finance and accounting teams.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience delivering presentations to leadership and boards.
• Upholds outstanding integrity and discretion handling sensitive financial data and information.
