Caretaker

About the Role

The Caretaker position involves ensuring a safe, clean, secure, and hospitable environment for all worshippers, visitors, staff, volunteers, and community organizations using the building facilities. This role includes managing the routine upkeep, security, and aesthetic presentation of the premises and surroundings.

Responsibilities

• Secure and unlock building access as required while conducting frequent security inspections.
• Manage responses to alarm activations and emergencies ensuring all entrances are properly locked when premises are unoccupied.
• Perform cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, mopping, and waste removal, ensuring all areas including halls, offices, kitchens, and washrooms maintain high cleanliness standards and are well stocked.
• Prepare rooms for various events including worship services, weddings, funerals, meetings, and community gatherings.
• Carry out regular building and grounds inspections, execute minor repairs, and report issues needing specialist intervention, coordinating with approved contractors to facilitate access.
• Monitor and maintain building systems such as heating and lighting for efficient functioning.
• Maintain external grounds, including pathways, parking, and gardening tasks such as litter clearance and ensuring accessibility and safety of outdoor areas.
• Assist with seasonal preparations such as winter gritting and coordinate with external contractors as necessary.
• Provide logistical support for events by setting up and clearing furniture and equipment, and assist attendees to foster a welcoming environment.
• Enforce health and safety regulations by conducting regular checks, maintaining required documentation, reporting incidents or hazards, and assisting with fire safety drills and emergency evacuations.
