Role Overview
The Buyer plays a vital role in enhancing category performance by sourcing, choosing, and procuring apparel merchandise that aligns with the brand identity, market positioning, and customer demands within the HFDF Corp. This position includes nurturing supplier partnerships, evaluating market trends, and coordinating with multiple teams to maintain a competitive assortment tailored for cruise line clientele.
Key Duties
- Plan and implement buying strategies encompassing apparel and logowear categories, including assortment and pricing plans.
- Assess sales analytics, guest preferences, and market developments to discover growth prospects.
- Identify and select suppliers who fulfill standards for quality, pricing, and delivery timelines.
- Conduct contract negotiations to optimize profit margins and assure timely product availability.
- Build and sustain cooperative relationships with major vendors and manufacturers.
- Choose apparel products matched to cruise line branding and customer expectations.
- Collaborate with cruise line leadership and product development teams to ensure product fit.
- Oversee inventory to maintain optimal levels, avoiding excess or shortage.
- Manage budget oversight, margin control, and category profitability to meet financial goals.
- Work with planning teams on demand forecasting and stock replenishment strategies.
- Coordinate with marketing for promotional initiatives to boost category sales.
- Engage with supply chain teams to guarantee efficient logistics and punctual deliveries.
- Provide periodic reports on category results and insights to senior management.
- Remain informed on industry trends, consumer preferences, and competitor actions.
- Visit markets and attend trade shows to spot emerging trends and business opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Business, Fashion Merchandising, or related discipline; advanced degrees are advantageous.
- Minimum seven years in buying or merchandising focusing on apparel and/or travel retail.
- Strong analytical skills with experience handling budgets and profit & loss statements.
- Expertise in negotiating with international suppliers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Proficiency with retail management and analytics software.
- Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally as required.
