Job description
Role Overview
Wood is seeking a Business Development Manager for their projects based in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. This role focuses on cultivating and securing new business prospects aligned with Wood’s strategic expansion plans globally and regionally. The core mandate is to capture new contracts, including renewing key framework agreements, while meeting growth objectives in revenue, margin, and client engagement. The manager will actively interact with major clients and government bodies across sectors such as Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Mining, and Infrastructure, establishing Wood as a trusted consulting partner. Additionally, the position requires collaboration with Wood's other divisions and execution centers to utilize complementary strengths, ensuring early positioning and comprehensive bid strategies to maximize outcomes from both fresh and renewal frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and evaluate promising opportunities in sectors including oil & gas, petrochemicals, mining, chemicals, infrastructure, and emerging energy fields.
- Establish and nurture relationships with strategic clients such as SABIC, AGOC, KJO, and Aramco joint ventures, ensuring alignment with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 industrial aims.
- Facilitate participation and renewal of framework agreements, monitor competitor contract expiration dates for proactive engagement.
- Cultivate strong links with governmental ministries, regulators, and industrial investment entities.
- Lead the initial opportunity identification and positioning stages following Wood’s Growth & Development Framework, qualifying and strategically pursuing leads.
- Utilize market intelligence, competitor analysis, and client feedback to create compelling win strategies and value propositions.
- Coordinate internal technical teams and external partners to enhance competitive positioning during pursuits.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of competitive landscape, pricing tactics, and local partnerships.
- Develop strategic alliances with EPC contractors and local joint ventures to improve success in complex or large-scale tenders.
- Explore acquisition or partnership prospects consistent with Wood’s growth strategy.
- Collaborate with proposal and commercial teams to support contract negotiations, ensuring alignment with client priorities and commercial frameworks.
- Engage clients during tenders to clarify queries, adjust pricing strategies, and enhance technical fit.
- Keep a customer-focused approach throughout pursuit stages to boost satisfaction and likelihood of winning contracts.
- Drive strategic account management to deepen client relationships, ensuring ongoing satisfaction and retention.
- Create and implement account plans matching client priorities and Wood’s business objectives.
- Monitor financial performance of key accounts, tracking revenue, margins, and profitability benchmarks.
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling to increase account value and foster sustainable growth.
- Ensure comprehensive recording of opportunities in Wood’s Customer Relationship Management system, adhering to governance standards.
- Assist leadership with forecasting, pipeline management, and business planning processes.
- Participate in Lead Review Meetings to confirm pursuit strategies align with risk appetite.
- Promote compliance with Wood’s business ethics and risk management policies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a closely related discipline.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CRM software tools.
- At least 10 years’ experience in business development within engineering, EPC, or consulting sectors, preferably in Saudi Arabia or the Gulf Cooperation Council region.
- Strong understanding of all project phases including concept, FEED, EPCm, and operations.
- Proven track record in securing framework agreements and large-scale capital projects.
- High commercial and technical aptitude suitable for strategic negotiations and client engagement.
- Experienced in early market positioning and forecasting of project pipelines.
- Knowledgeable about government procedures related to contract approvals and awards.
- International experience and cross-cultural communication skills are preferred.
