Role Overview
Zemi Africa is seeking a Brand & Communications Consultant to strategically shape how the company conveys its value to customers, partners, investors, and the broader public. This position focuses on crafting the fundamental messaging framework that supports marketing, sales, fundraising efforts, partnerships, and general communications rather than content creation.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and assess current communications across various platforms including digital channels, marketing collateral, sales materials, partnership documents, and investor presentations.
- Identify inconsistencies, gaps, and areas for improved messaging alignment.
- Develop a detailed messaging framework that covers brand positioning, core value propositions, tailored audience messaging for buyers, sellers, partners, and investors, tone of voice, hierarchical messaging structure, and guidelines for clear, accessible language.
- Standardize and rewrite essential company documents such as corporate profiles, elevator pitches, website content, sales communications, and presentation templates to reflect the new framework.
- Create templates and guidelines to ensure ongoing consistency in future communications.
- Lead workshops with the founding and sales teams to embed the refined messaging and ensure internal adoption.
- Offer strategic advice to maintain communication coherence as the company scales.

- A comprehensive positioning and messaging framework tailored to Zemi's brand.
- Defined, audience-specific messaging for all key stakeholder groups.
- Elevated consistency across digital platforms, sales materials, partner communications, and investor relations documents.
- Empowered founders and sales staff with clear communication strategies and tools.
- A practical and sustainable communications playbook for ongoing use beyond the consultancy.
Candidate Qualifications
- Proven track record in developing brand positioning and messaging strategies, particularly for startups or rapidly growing firms.
- Preferably experienced in fintech, commerce, technology sectors, marketplaces, or SME-focused companies.
- Portfolio showcasing successful simplification of complex products or services through messaging.
- Exceptional written and oral communication abilities.
- Strong knowledge of customer-centric messaging and brand strategy techniques.
- Experience collaborating closely with founders or executive leadership teams.
- Demonstrated capacity to independently provide strategic deliverables within dynamic environments.
Additional Assets
- Experience supporting fundraising efforts, investor communications, or grant proposals.
- Insight into the Kenyan or broader African digital commerce and SME marketplaces.
- Skills in conducting messaging or branding workshops.
Work Arrangement
This is a contractual role based onsite in Nairobi, Kenya.
