About the Role and Company

PHM is an established independent Chartered Accountants firm based in Northampton, delivering audit, accountancy, tax, bookkeeping, and advisory services primarily to owner-managed businesses and SMEs within Northamptonshire and nearby areas. Due to growth in the bookkeeping segment and expanding Making Tax Digital mandates, the firm seeks an experienced Bookkeeper to enhance their team. This position offers flexibility for either full-time or part-time commitment, suitable for candidates balancing career and personal responsibilities while contributing to a professional environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping records for a client portfolio.
  • Process purchase and sales invoices along with bank transactions.
  • Prepare and file VAT returns in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct bank reconciliations, VAT reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Use Xero accounting software to manage client bookkeeping records.
  • Serve as the principal daily contact for clients, fostering strong relationships.
  • Engage in regular client communication via telephone, email, Teams, and face-to-face meetings.
  • Provide practical support and guidance related to bookkeeping matters.
  • Help clients comply with Making Tax Digital standards.
  • Collaborate closely with firm colleagues to ensure superior client service.

Candidate Requirements

  • At least five years of bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice setting.
  • Expertise in using Xero accounting software.
  • Proven ability to manage bookkeeping for multiple clients simultaneously.
  • Experience with VAT return preparation and submission.
  • Confident in direct client interaction and relationship development.
  • Effective communication skills across various platforms including phone, email, Teams, and in-person.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with attention to accuracy and workload management.
  • Professional, positive demeanor with an approachable attitude.
