Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a driven and enthusiastic Biomedical Scientist to join a welcoming immunology team. The post is based in a modern, fully equipped regional immunology laboratory that is accredited to UKAS 15189 standards.

The role is offered at Band 5 level, depending on how well the candidate meets the person specification. Applicants who are close to completing their pre-registration portfolio may also be considered.

The laboratory is an IBMS-approved training environment, and the trust places strong emphasis on supporting professional growth.

About the service

This appointment is with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, which is also part of a wider pathology collaboration initiative. Four provider organisations across Lancashire and South Cumbria are working together to create a networked pathology service, with the long-term aim of becoming a single pathology entity hosted by one of the partner organisations.

The immunology service is equipped to deliver a high-quality regional diagnostic service and uses specialist platforms such as Navios flow cytometer, DSII ELISA processors, Capillarys 2 Flex, Hydrasys 2 scan, Euroblot One, Bioplex, Helios slide processors, Phadia 2500, Phadia 1000, two Phadia 250 units, and BNII.

What the role involves

Team members rotate across three immunology areas: autoimmunity, flow cytometry, and immunochemistry/allergy. The work combines use of modern automation with development of highly specialised manual laboratory techniques.
