Backup and Linux Administrator - Qatar

Role Overview

This position focuses on keeping Linux, virtualization, and backup environments stable, secure, and recoverable. The administrator will support enterprise servers, VMware platforms, Commvault backups, and Azure recovery services while helping maintain high availability and operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, support, update, and resolve issues on Linux servers, including RHEL, Oracle Linux, and similar distributions.
• Handle operating system patching, version upgrades, kernel maintenance, and system hardening activities.
• Run VMware environments such as ESXi hosts, vCenter, clusters, High Availability, and Distributed Resource Scheduler setups.
• Create, maintain, and manage virtual machines, templates, snapshots, and migration activities.
• Support on-premises Commvault backup systems, including backup schedules, retention settings, job monitoring, and restore tasks.
• Administer Azure Backup and Recovery Services Vault for cloud-based workloads.
• Carry out backup validation, disaster recovery exercises, and restore testing.
• Track infrastructure availability and performance across storage, CPU, memory, and network components.
• Use scripting or automation tools to reduce manual work and streamline recurring administration tasks.
• Keep technical documentation and SOPs up to date, and assist with incident response and on-call support when required.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline is required.
• Applicants should have 4 to 8+ years of relevant experience in system administration.
• Strong practical knowledge of Linux administration and troubleshooting is essential.
• Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter is needed.
• Solid understanding of Commvault backup administration is required.
• Experience with Azure Backup and other cloud recovery tools is expected.
• Working knowledge of SAN, NAS, RAID, snapshots, and related storage concepts is necessary.
• Understanding of networking basics such as DNS, TCP/IP, routing, and firewalls is required.
• Preferred certifications include RHCSA or RHCE, VMware VCP, Microsoft Azure certifications such as AZ-104 or AZ-305, and Commvault certification.
