Role Overview
This position is a front-office investment management and business origination role on the Capital Markets team. The Associate Director will be pivotal in advancing the Capital Solutions segment by underwriting and financing distributed energy projects, with a special emphasis on battery storage systems and microgrid technologies.
This role requires a hybrid work arrangement, necessitating presence in the New York City Union Square office at least four days per week.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead origination, structuring, and oversight of diverse financing facilities including debt, tax equity, and tax credit transfer arrangements.
- Integrate new project development and capital market deals into financial models.
- Apply relevant provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act and the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in transactions.
- Oversee and mentor the Capital Markets analyst team.
- Serve as a strategic partner collaborating across internal departments and external stakeholders such as legal, accounting, project teams, bankers, and tax equity investors.
- Foster strong business relationships throughout the Scale organization.
- Regularly engage senior leadership on investment insights, business innovation, and strategic impacts.
- Guide and delegate appropriately among junior capital markets team members.
Qualifications & Experience
- At least 5 years' experience in financing or investment within infrastructure or renewable energy sectors, particularly distributed generation.
- Minimum 2 years managing financial professionals in analyst or associate roles within deal teams.
- Bachelor's degree required, ideally in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or Engineering; MBA or CFA credentials are preferred.
- Proficient financial modeling skills capable of evaluating multiple capital structures across different debt markets including development capital, commercial bank loans, leveraged finance, and mezzanine or Holdco debt.
- Experience in negotiating, closing, and documenting debt and tax equity funding transactions.
- Capability to build and audit sophisticated financial models.
- Involvement in project and portfolio mergers and acquisitions execution.
- Proven track record in originating deal opportunities.
- Familiarity with off-take agreements related to distributed energy systems.
- Experience performing due diligence for projects and portfolios, managing external consultants and legal counsels.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex financial and strategic information to non-financial stakeholders.
- A proactive, innovative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and ability to effectively manage upward.
- Good understanding of technical and commercial terms affecting project viability.
