About sKids
At sKids, we believe every child deserves joyous moments filled with learning and adventure. Since 1996, we have created engaging out-of-school activities for Ta-mariki across New Zealand, serving over 3,800 children daily at more than 170 school locations. Our environment is lively, featuring creative arts, scientific exploration, sports, cooking, and fun games, ensuring that no two days are alike.
Role Overview
As an Assistant Programme Manager, you will play an essential role in ensuring children's experiences during mornings and afternoons are memorable. This part-time position requires a minimum of 10 hours weekly, with shifts scheduled Monday through Friday. Morning shifts occur from 7:00 am to 8:30 am, while afternoon shifts run from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm, with attendance from 2:30 pm onward mandatory. Opportunities to work during school holiday programmes, from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, may also be available.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Programme Manager in daily operations to maintain organized and efficient programme delivery.
- Act as second-in-command, confidently leading sessions and managing the programme in the manager's absence.
- Supervise and interact with large groups of children, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable atmosphere.
- Help plan and facilitate structured activities such as arts and crafts, sports, games, and offsite excursions.
- Support behaviour management using positive reinforcement and maintain consistent team approaches.
- Guide and support Programme Assistants to ensure smooth activity execution and adherence to expectations.
- Foster positive communications and relationships with parents, caregivers, and school personnel.
- Assist in the setup, packing down, and resource preparation to guarantee seamless session flow.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand, including valid citizenship or visa.
- Reliable transportation to commute to the sKids Forrest Hill location.
- Experience working with childrens groups, such as in OSCAR programmes, childcare, coaching, teaching, or camps.
- Confidence in taking on leadership duties, making decisions, and demonstrating initiative.
- Exposure to behaviour management in group settings, maintaining calm and positive guidance.
- Strong teamwork skills, capable of both supporting and leading colleagues.
- Effective communication abilities with children, parents, and school staff.
- Minimum age of 20 years, as required by Social Security (Childcare Assistance) Regulations 2004.
