Role Purpose
The Assistant Manager - Cost Engineering position is focused on enhancing cost competitiveness across products, projects, and operations by integrating engineering insights with financial accuracy. The role aims to establish precise cost structures, uncover cost-saving opportunities, and support strategic commercial decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and sustain should-cost models for various products and systems such as chillers, fan walls, and skids.
- Oversee project cost estimation during both bidding and project execution stages.
- Ensure accuracy of BOMs, process routings, and manufacturing assumptions through validation.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to align designs with cost objectives.
- Evaluate supplier quotations and develop clean-sheet cost models to guide procurement negotiations.
- Monitor trends in commodities like copper, aluminum, and steel to inform cost strategies.
- Lead cost reduction efforts by identifying opportunities in materials, design, and manufacturing processes.
- Facilitate value engineering and value analysis workshops to optimize cost and design.
- Perform benchmarking of internal costs against market and global standards to ensure competitiveness.
- Challenge excessive engineering practices and promote design standardization and modularization.
- Assist finance teams in margin management by tracking product and project margins against targets and analyzing variances between standard and actual costs.
- Support pricing strategies by providing transparent cost analyses.
- Develop cost visibility dashboards for monitoring across various business units.
Eligibility and Education
Candidates should hold a B.Tech or B.E. degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
