Role Overview

We are seeking a Technical Trainer to join our global feature animation studio team based in Sydney. This role involves developing and delivering educational programs that enhance technical expertise and enrichment for artists and production teams. The Trainer will manage curriculum design, lead hands-on training sessions focusing on both industry-standard and proprietary Netflix Animation tools, and upkeep educational content throughout the animation production process.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and deliver comprehensive new hire onboarding training, ensuring an exceptional introduction to Netflix Animation’s culture and processes.
• Collaborate with subject-matter experts to provide training across foundational skills, technical software (including Maya, Houdini, Nuke), and production workflows.
• Create custom courses by partnering with technical and production departments, converting existing resources into effective workshops and training outlines.
• Assist subject-matter experts by supporting curriculum development, defining learning objectives, and applying sound instructional-design principles.
• Manage and enhance the Learning Management System by creating, uploading, and tracking courses and instructor-led training; also contribute to LMS visual design elements.
• Update and maintain training materials to reflect current production practices, tailoring resources for team- or studio-wide applicability.
• Foster a collaborative environment characterized by inclusivity and openness; work closely with various internal teams to understand and meet training needs with advanced solutions.
• Ensure training facilities and equipment are well-maintained; coordinate scheduling and support for trainings and studio-wide educational events.
• Identify further training needs in partnership with production leadership and artist management to help implement department-specific workshops.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Proven ability in instructional design and delivering engaging training sessions in both physical and virtual formats, utilizing assessment tools to evaluate learning impact.
• In-depth knowledge of CG production pipelines with hands-on experience using animation tools such as Maya, Mari, Houdini (including Solaris), Nuke, and proprietary systems leveraging USD workflows.
• Excellent communication skills with an ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse audiences; experience in global, multicultural team settings.
• Strong problem-solving skills showing resilience in fast-paced, evolving studio environments; adept at navigating ambiguity and accommodating continual change.
• Highly organized with experience managing documentation using platforms like Confluence and Google Workspace.
• Demonstrated curiosity and a collaborative advisory style to analyze talent development needs and translate these into meaningful training programs with successful impact.
• Background combining animation production experience (film or feature animation) with educational development expertise or an equivalent field.
