Overview of the Role
The role, based in Darwin, focuses on overseeing the planning, coordination, supervision, and delivery of structural work on a significant high-rise student accommodation development.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize and manage all structural construction operations, such as concrete, formwork, reinforcement, post-tensioning, and structural steel, where relevant.
- Lead the progress of floor cycles, critical milestones, and key activities to meet structural program timelines.
- Collaborate closely with the Site Manager and Project Engineers to formulate short-term and forward-looking schedules.
- Track work progress against the planned program and proactively address delays, potential hazards, and productivity bottlenecks.
- Sequence structural tasks effectively to facilitate smooth handovers to subsequent trades and project phases.
- Supervise and coordinate subcontractors on structural works ensuring adherence to timelines, quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Manage resources, including labor, equipment, materials, tower crane operations, concrete pours, and logistics, to uphold productivity and workflow.
- Perform pre-pour checks, oversee quality control points, and ensure proper documentation of inspections and testing plans.
- Inspect structural work for compliance with drawings, specifications, engineering criteria, and allowable construction tolerances.
- Identify and rectify defects and quality issues promptly to ensure proper closeout.
- Promote and uphold a rigorous safety culture and ensure compliance with DCOH's HSEQ standards, Safe Work Method Statements, permits, and project-specific safety requirements.
- Conduct regular site safety inspections, observations, and toolbox meetings.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with project teams, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and other key stakeholders.
- Provide mentorship and support to Leading Hands and site staff, encouraging accountability, cooperation, and ongoing improvement.
Candidate Profile
- Hold a trade qualification in Carpentry, Concreting, Civil Construction, Construction, or a related field.
- Bring at least 5 years of experience as a Foreman, Structural Foreman, Site Supervisor, or in a similar capacity on commercial construction projects.
- Proven history of successfully delivering structural packages in multi-storey commercial or high-rise construction environments.
- Strong expertise in structural construction methods, including formwork, reinforcement, concrete, post-tensioning, and structural steel.
- Experience managing subcontractors, labor teams, and optimizing site productivity.
- Ability to read and interpret structural blueprints, engineering details, technical specifications, and construction schedules.
- Solid knowledge of construction safety legislation, quality assurance systems, and HSEQ requirements.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to managing site activities.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and construction management software is advantageous.
