About Downtown Community Ministry
Downtown Community Ministry (DCM) is a well-established, values-driven non-governmental organisation in Wellington, New Zealand. It specializes in providing social services to individuals who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness, aiming to assist them in achieving housing stability and social aspirations. Operating in collaboration with sector partners, DCM focuses on systemic change and community connection guided by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Position Overview
The role of Strategy, Performance and Insights Manager reports directly to the Manahautū (Chief Executive) and is a core member of the Kaiarataki Kāhui (Senior Leadership Team). This influential senior leadership position requires strengthening the organisation’s strategic direction, performance metrics, and partnership frameworks. The incumbent will focus on integrating data analysis, evidence, and sector knowledge into decision-making to enhance DCM’s impact and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead DCM’s evaluation frameworks and continuous improvement systems, identifying areas to enhance service delivery and outcomes.
- Manage strategic performance measurement using data and insights to analyze trends and inform organisational decisions.
- Advise leadership with evidence-based insights and compelling narratives to support engagement with funders, government bodies, and sector partners.
- Oversee contract management, funding sustainability, financial reporting, and associated risk mitigation.
- Identify strategic growth opportunities including funding avenues, collaborative partnerships, and sector initiatives.
- Build and nurture trusted relationships with funders, government agencies, elected officials, and partner organisations.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the team to encourage collaboration, high performance, and a culture of ongoing improvement.
- Represent DCM at external forums, sector engagements, and conferences locally and internationally to champion DCM’s kaupapa and enhance its profile.
- Serve as Deputy to the Manahautū, offering leadership continuity during absence and supporting key organisational priorities.
Candidate Profile and Skills
- Proven senior leadership experience in social services, NGOs, or community-oriented sectors.
- Expertise in shaping organisational strategy, performance enhancement, and evidence-driven decision-making.
- Competency in contract oversight, accountability reporting, and risk management processes.
- A systems thinking approach emphasizing best practices, sustainable impact, and continuous innovation.
- Advanced data analytical abilities to interpret complex data and derive meaningful conclusions.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of translating data into persuasive stories and reports.
- Strong team leadership and capability-building skills that foster a cooperative work culture.
- Effective networking skills with a history of establishing partnerships with funders, government, and community stakeholders.
- Confidence in public representation and community engagement.
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and embedding bicultural principles in daily practices.
- Passion for social justice, empathy for vulnerable populations, and belief in housing and dignity for all.
- Comfort with CRM software, data management platforms, Microsoft Office (Access, Excel), and preferably Power BI.
