Job description

Job Overview

The Storeman in the workshop is responsible for managing the entire inventory process, including receiving, storing, issuing, posting, and accounting for spare parts and related documentation in the spare parts store.

Key Responsibilities

  • Update bin cards immediately after issuing or supplying spare parts; ensure physical and system stock balances match at all times.
  • Use correct documentation for receiving and issuing stock items.
  • Uphold best warehousing practices to maintain store organization and safety.
  • Carry out warehousing and storekeeping duties such as receiving, identifying, handling, storing, issuing, and delivering spare parts.
  • Process daily job orders using the Instanta system.
  • Verify that stock serial numbers in the system correspond with physically received or issued stock.
  • Determine and communicate appropriate storage locations (bin allocations) for stock to store officers.
  • Report any stock issues like damages or warehouse concerns such as roof leakages promptly.
  • Conduct spot checks and inventory verifications for accuracy and proper storage conditions.
  • Organize warehouse layout optimally to maximize space for current stock.
  • Monitor stock reorder levels to ensure timely replenishment.
  • Maintain safety standards and proper working methods in the warehouse.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain safety, security, and cleanliness.
  • Coordinate inventory cycles by updating slow-moving and fast-moving parts.
  • Perform regular cycle counts and periodic store counts for all parts.
  • Keep thorough documentation of all work orders.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety and health policies.
  • Liaise effectively with technical buyers, vendors, and the workshop team.
  • Submit monthly reports detailing all posted orders.
  • Carry out any additional duties assigned by the Head of Unit or Head of Department.

Qualifications and Experience

  • National Diploma (ND) in Accounting or relevant field.
  • Minimum two years of experience in inventory management.
  • Complete understanding of inventory control processes.
  • Experience in customer relationship management.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficient with data analysis tools and reporting systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of asset tracking, inventory software, and accounting principles.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities.
