Role Overview

Joining the Boulder Opal team as a Software Engineer, you will construct backend infrastructure essential for our quantum software platform. Your collaboration will involve compiler engineers and researchers, focusing on designing scalable backend systems, APIs, and performance-sensitive services, while enhancing your knowledge of compiler technologies and quantum computing.

This position suits skilled backend engineers with an interest in systems programming and a desire to deepen expertise in compiler engineering over time.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and sustain scalable backend services using Python and C++.
• Create APIs and backend functionalities supporting compilers and quantum runtimes.
• Develop dependable distributed and cloud-native services.
• Enhance performance, dependability, and monitoring of backend components.
• Partner with compiler engineers to integrate new compiler features into production.
• Collaborate with researchers and product teams to deploy new platform capabilities.
• Gradually learn and participate in compiler infrastructure development as your expertise progresses.

Mandatory Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.
• Proficiency in Python programming.
• Experience in modern C++ development.
• Background in building backend or distributed systems.
• Skill in designing APIs using REST, gRPC, or GraphQL.

Desirable Qualifications

• Building high-performance backend systems experience.
• Knowledge of asynchronous programming and concurrency.
• Experience with FastAPI, Flask, or Django frameworks.
• Understanding of compiler concepts or implementation of programming languages.
• Exposure to LLVM or MLIR infrastructures.
• Interest in quantum computing or scientific software environments.
• Familiarity with systems programming languages such as Rust or Go.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary target ranges from $130,000 to $170,000, influenced by skills, expertise, level, and location. The role could also offer annual bonuses, equity, and additional compensation beyond the base salary. Benefits information is provided on the company's careers page.
