Role Summary

The Shift Supervisor plays a vital role in supporting the Store Manager by managing daily operational tasks to ensure efficient store function. When necessary, the Supervisor also acts as a Sales Associate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with customers and donors in a warm, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Safeguard the quality and integrity of donated merchandise.
  • Accurately process sales transactions including handling cash and debit card payments.
  • Help achieve store financial goals by maintaining excellent customer service standards.
  • Open and close the store adhering to prescribed procedures.
  • Manage donated goods by unloading, sorting, pricing, packaging, and storing items properly.
  • Maintain product knowledge to respond effectively to customer inquiries both in-person and via phone.
  • Oversee store security by monitoring activity within the premises.
  • Handle merchandise safely and organize stock rotation processes.
  • Control inventory through receiving, sorting, and pricing under supervision.
  • Assist with store layout and visual merchandising to attract customers, including creating appealing window and merchandise displays.
  • Ensure the store remains tidy and well-maintained through cleaning and restocking activities.
  • Support inventory reconciliation efforts such as cycle counting.
  • Provide guidance and on-the-job training to staff as needed, especially in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Promote a safe and healthy workplace in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by management.

Relationships

Works closely with internal staff and management of The Salvation Army and interacts externally with donors, clients, and contractors.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time role in a store environment requiring physical activity including standing, walking, bending, stretching, and lifting up to 30 pounds regularly without assistance.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, dust, and fumes is common.
  • The role involves some repetition and requires adherence to deadlines.
  • Interpersonal conflicts with customers, donors, vendors, or employees may occasionally occur.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Completion of some high school education.
  • Minimum two years' experience in retail or warehouse settings.
  • Commitment to understanding and supporting The Salvation Army's mission and values.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and The Salvation Army’s safety policies.

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities with a team-oriented mindset.
  • Physical capability to lift and carry items up to 30 pounds frequently without help, including movements like bending and twisting.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Willingness to complete required background and screening checks satisfactorily.

Compensation and Accommodations

The salary range for this position is approximately $19.19 to $24.00 per hour, with an upper limit of $28.79, depending on market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications. Reasonable accommodations are available upon request to support candidates during the hiring process.
