Overview

The Service Materials Planner plays a critical role in ensuring that the correct packaging materials and fabricated components are available at precise locations, in appropriate quantities, and at the right times within the Service value chain. This position is responsible for managing the planning, procurement, and inventory of commodity packaging used to safeguard Tesla-fabricated service parts throughout outbound logistics and distribution center deliveries.

Key Duties

  • Maintain control over quarterly purchase orders for fabricated part packaging and supplies, collaborating with Global Supply Management to secure cost-efficient procurement aligned with weekly demands.
  • Ensure seamless availability of packaging and packing resources at correct locations and timings to support outbound service operations and monitor inventory levels to avoid supply disruptions.
  • Work collaboratively with Packaging Engineering and Global Supply Management on fit-and-function testing for new initiatives, prepare packaging for product launches, and verify vendor packaging meets quality standards to ensure defect-free delivery to distribution centers.
  • Manage, track, and communicate occasional extraordinary packaging delivery requests, aligning relevant teams on delivery forecasts and priorities.
  • Engage with various Service Supply Chain stakeholders—including Engineering, Demand Planning, Material Planning, Production, Outbound, and GSM—to address bottlenecks and promote timely execution.
  • Monitor weekly goal achievement; escalate risks proactively and cooperate with Production Planning to implement swift corrective actions.
  • Champion continuous improvement efforts aimed at enhancing packaging availability, inventory conditions, supplier performance, and overall process stability within the Service supply network.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in manufacturing, supply chain operations, materials planning, or procurement.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline; or equivalent combined education and professional experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing workflows, procurement processes, product lifecycle management, and complete supply chain operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, adept at assessing data and making informed operational decisions supported by clear leadership recommendations.
  • Proven expertise in managing supplier relations and operational performance.
  • High energy level combined with ownership mentality, strong interpersonal skills to effectively influence cross-functional teams, and the ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-evolving environment.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience with packaging materials, outbound logistics, service parts planning, fabricated component supply chains, and proficiency with inventory analytic tools like Excel, SQL, and Tableau or Power BI.
