Senior Project Accountant

Role Overview

Our client, a dynamic and growing company, is looking to appoint a Senior Project Accountant to join their Finance team. This role is pivotal, involving hands-on management of project accounting tasks, revenue recognition, and monthly financial reporting to maintain the accuracy and integrity of project balances within the ledger.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage accounting processes for all revenue-generating activities, ensuring project balances are precise, comprehensive, and fully justified.
• Apply revenue recognition using the percentage of completion method, handle work-in-progress (WIP), accrued and deferred revenue, and account for contract assets and liabilities.
• Perform reconciliation of certified and applied contract values against recognized revenue and investigate any discrepancies.
• Administer project cost accruals, subcontractor accounting, provisions, retentions, and related balance sheet reconciliations.
• Lead the month-end close process for project ledgers, including cut-off and period-end adjustments.
• Compile the monthly project summary report, detailing profit and loss as well as balance sheet movements.
• Reconcile project ledger entries to the general ledger and assist in statutory reporting efforts.
• Prepare trading results down to gross margin within monthly management accounts and provide analysis on fluctuations in revenue, costs, margin, and intercompany balances.

Candidate Profile

• Possession of a professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or an equivalent credential.
• Proven expertise in project accounting and revenue recognition practices.
• Strong understanding of month-end closing routines, reconciliations, and management reporting frameworks.
• Ability to collaborate confidently with commercial teams and communicate accounting adjustments clearly and effectively.
• Experience with FRS 102 accounting standards is highly beneficial; familiarity with IFRS 15 would be advantageous.
