Overview
Gritter Francona is seeking a Section 508 Compliance Specialist to ensure all digital assets including multimedia content, documents, and communications developed for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) National Center for PTSD adhere strictly to Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and relevant federal accessibility regulations. This position plays a vital role in delivering accessible educational resources that empower Veterans, trauma survivors, caregivers, healthcare providers, and the broader public—including individuals with disabilities—to access scientifically accurate, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive information related to PTSD and related conditions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough reviews of digital products, videos, documents, websites, and multimedia materials for alignment with Section 508 and federal accessibility standards.
- Assess educational content accessibility throughout all development phases including planning, design, production, testing, and delivery.
- Ensure multimedia includes key accessibility elements such as synchronized captions, transcripts, audio descriptions when necessary, accessible media controls, and keyboard navigability.
- Evaluate electronic documents, presentations, reports, training resources, brochures, and communications to meet established accessibility criteria.
- Collaborate closely with project leads, video production teams, writers, graphic designers, videographers, editors, and government stakeholders to promptly identify and address accessibility challenges.
- Use manual and industry-standard automated tools to perform comprehensive accessibility testing.
- Capture findings from accessibility assessments, propose remediation strategies, and verify correction before final government approval.
- Offer expert guidance and technical support to teams on Section 508 compliance, accessible documentation, multimedia standards, and best practices.
- Incorporate accessibility requirements proactively into project planning, production workflows, quality assurance, and deliverables.
- Maintain accurate records of accessibility reviews, testing outcomes, remediation efforts, and compliance statuses.
- Stay updated on evolving Federal accessibility regulations and Section 508 standards to recommend improvements in processes.
- Participate in quality assurance activities to ensure all final deliverables meet contractual accessibility obligations prior to governmental submission.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Communications, Digital Media, Accessibility, Human-Computer Interaction, Education, or a related field is required.
- At least three years of professional experience in Section 508 compliance or managing digital accessibility initiatives pertinent to this kind of project.
- Proven ability to evaluate and remediate digital content to comply with Federal accessibility standards.
