Overview

Join the Ministry of Education in New Zealand as a key member of the Learning Support team based in Palmerston North. This fixed-term role (part-time, 0.4 FTE) runs until 18 December 2026 and focuses on supporting equitable and excellent educational outcomes through comprehensive psychological services.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and identify factors impacting learners' behaviour, wellbeing, and education outcomes.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including educators, parents, caregivers, and whānau to deepen understanding of children's needs and behaviours.
• Conduct detailed specialist assessments and provide evidence-based actionable insights to plan interventions.
• Facilitate access to broader support services tailored to individual learner requirements.
• Offer expert advice and support to educators and families, building their capability to assist children's learning.
• Promote inclusive practices across schools and educational environments.

Candidate Profile

• Possess a Masters-level qualification or Post-graduate Diploma in Educational or Clinical Psychology or an equivalent credential.
• Be registered with the New Zealand Psychologist Board and hold a current Practicing Certificate.
• Display strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with children, young people, their families, and educators in diverse settings.
• Demonstrate cultural competency, with a focus on recognizing and respecting different cultural identities, languages, and traditions.
• Show willingness or capability to learn about Te Ao Māori and integrate tikanga and Te Reo Māori perspectives.
• Hold a valid full driving licence.
• Adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

The Learning Support team plays an essential leadership role in ensuring children with additional learning needs can achieve their potential. The Manawatū team embodies a strong, cohesive, and innovative ethos, offering a supportive transdisciplinary environment to make a meaningful impact.

Additional Information

• Location: Palmerston North office.
• Employment Type: Fixed term until 18 December 2026, part-time (0.4 FTE).
• Salary Range: $85,916 to $126,500 annually, plus KiwiSaver contributions. Appointment salary depends on skills and experience.
