Role overview

This position sits within Qatar Airways Group IT, under Digital Solutions & Engineering in the Operations function. The selected professional will lead assigned IT initiatives and solutions from start to finish, making sure they align with internal project standards, business needs, deadlines, and approved budgets. The role also includes ownership of application support for allocated business lines, plus contribution to business-IT strategy and budget planning for the relevant area.

Key responsibilities

Drive delivery of assigned IT projects and solutions by working closely with business stakeholders, internal departments, and external suppliers. Work may involve in-house builds, packaged solutions, and ongoing application support.
Provide objective performance feedback for team members and other resources supporting projects and application operations.
Plan technology and application design with future growth, resilience, and scalability in mind.
Offer technical direction and guidance on important architecture decisions for platforms and related technologies.
Design and implement solutions using industry-standard, scalable technical architectures.
Build project schedules and allocate resources appropriately for each assignment.
Oversee the full RFX process for vendors and participate in service reviews with suppliers.
Ensure every project has a realistic, up-to-date plan with the right staffing and support.
Confirm that delivery stays within the approved timeline, quality standards, and budget.
Make sure project execution follows the defined phases and complies fully with QR IT processes and procedures.
Verify that solutions satisfy agreed business and technical requirements, remain maintainable, and meet documented acceptance criteria.
Ensure solutions are properly validated through functional, non-functional, performance, and integration testing before user acceptance testing.
Identify project risks and create practical mitigation and management actions.
Share timely and accurate project updates and reporting with IT leadership and business stakeholders.
Maintain adequate support for assigned applications and manage application support teams and suppliers.
Investigate system issues, determine severity, and recommend appropriate fixes.
Connect related incidents or recurring problems to support detailed analysis and trend reporting.
Carry out in-service reviews with external suppliers.
Perform business analysis to translate user needs into solution requirements and system specifications.
Contribute to business-IT strategy and budgeting for the assigned business units.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification, along with at least 6 years of work experience relevant to the role.
Background in project management, software development and maintenance, third-party application implementation, vendor coordination, and support.
Experience with the RFP process.
Hands-on exposure to project management, systems design and implementation, project management tools, UI/UX concepts, application support, business analysis, and team leadership.
Strong managerial ability, including coaching and developing team members, encouraging collaboration, and handling conflict effectively.
Preferred: 8 years of specialised technical experience, ideally in a project-based IT environment.
Preferred: Experience working as a senior contributor on IT projects.
Preferred: Good working knowledge of the software development life cycle.
Preferred: Ability to adapt to emerging technologies.
