Process Safety Specialist

Overview

The Process Safety Specialist is tasked with ensuring the accurate gathering, organization, validation, and upkeep of vital Process Safety documentation. This encompasses technical records regarding hazards, equipment, technology, and plant design, which must remain accessible to operations, maintenance, engineering, and emergency response teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and administer a comprehensive system for managing all Process Safety documents.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance to confirm the accuracy of Process Safety information during project closeouts, Management of Change (MOC) implementations, and routine audits.
• Take part in Process Safety Management (PSM) audits, concentrating on the Process Safety element.
• Support the creation of effective data management strategies specific to process safety.
• Benchmark major safety management systems and processes to drive continuous improvement.
• Lead execution of Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPAs), and other risk assessment activities.
• Head investigations of incidents or accidents affecting company and contractor personnel or equipment, maintaining detailed incident records for monitoring purposes.
• Facilitate the development of process safety engineers by defining Individual Development Plans (IDPs), encouraging external opportunities, and coordinating joint venture assignments.
• Acquire necessary tools and software to improve departmental performance.

Qualifications and Skills

• At least 10 years of experience in an industrial or engineering setting with significant expertise in technical documentation and data management.
• Strong communication abilities for effective coordination with technical teams.
• NEBOSH certification is required.
• Certification as a HAZOP leader is mandatory.
• Certified in Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
