Role purpose
This role is focused on strengthening the firm’s ability to price complex legal work, including matters that use technology and GenAI-supported delivery. The position serves as a trusted subject-matter expert, giving practical and commercially sound advice to partners and senior leaders.
As part of the global pricing function, you will lead the creation, review, and analysis of commercial proposals for high-value matters that span multiple jurisdictions or involve advanced delivery models. You will also support submissions through governance channels and share pricing intelligence across the wider firm.
The role also involves building out sophisticated pricing capability across the organisation. That includes developing tools, guidance, governance, training, and hands-on support for advanced pricing approaches such as GenAI-assisted delivery and alternative fee arrangements (AFAs) or value-based pricing.
You will need a strong understanding of the firm’s legal products and services, how they are currently delivered, and how technology and GenAI may change future delivery models. This knowledge should be used to shape innovative and appropriate pricing approaches for each product type.
Another key part of the role is supporting strategic client panel activity by advising on commercial positioning, helping shape pricing strategy, and coordinating inputs across regions to improve the firm’s chances of securing panel appointments.
Key dimensions
- Act as a senior contributor within the global pricing team, showing ownership, innovation, and a high standard of work.
- Partner with senior pricing leaders and stakeholders to evolve the firm’s commercial strategy in response to technology shifts and market competition.
- Support the creation of complex pricing proposals globally, including those linked to tech-enabled and GenAI-supported delivery.
- Guide partners, managers, and matter teams on pricing design, financial modelling, scenario analysis, fee structure choices, and negotiation planning.
- Serve as an escalation point for unusual or complex pricing issues and help others decide on the best commercial approach.
- Spot opportunities to standardise work by creating playbooks, commercial models, and best-practice tools that improve speed and consistency.
- Use standard and bespoke models to estimate margins under different fee structures and recommend the most suitable option, from hourly billing to AFAs, hybrid pricing, or value/outcome-based models.
- Help lead local and global client panel processes by shaping commercial strategy, coordinating pricing inputs across jurisdictions, and supporting competitive positioning.
- Work with pricing, legal project management, billing, and legal teams to administer AFAs in the firm’s financial systems and improve related processes and systems.
- Identify training gaps and build learning frameworks that strengthen pricing capability across stakeholder groups.
- Deepen understanding of the firm’s products, delivery methods, and future tech-enabled models so pricing recommendations stay relevant and commercially effective.
Key responsibilities and challenges
- Manage priorities effectively, maintain a structured workload, and contribute to team development through knowledge sharing and peer support.
- Work with lawyers, legal tech, finance, matter optimisation, legal project management, and other business professionals to respond to GenAI-related pricing opportunities.
- Create accurate financial models for complex matters, even under pressure, and prepare pricing support for negotiations and competitive bidding such as e-auctions.
- Build and maintain reusable pricing templates for common types of complex matters to improve consistency and turnaround time.
- Project-manage the financial elements of proposals, keep stakeholders engaged, and ensure deadlines and negotiation requirements are met.
- Guide fee proposals through governance and approval processes and recommend improvements to make those processes more efficient.
- Help draft matter terms so commercial points are clearly captured, maintain precedent wording, and track changes from initial quote to final agreement.
- Ensure all changes in commercial terms are reflected accurately and that any departures from client terms are properly approved and recorded.
- Maintain strong controls and quality checks over both standard and bespoke financial models.
- Provide commercial insight and constructive challenge to influence partners, and negotiate directly with clients when needed, including travel within the region or overseas.
- Make sure agreed fee arrangements are implemented correctly in internal systems, or help design bespoke workflows where required.
- Prepare reports and visual dashboards, including Tableau-based outputs where appropriate, to surface trends and insights for the global pricing network and the wider firm.
- Track market developments, especially around pricing structures, technology adoption, competition, and changing market conditions.
- Promote knowledge sharing, provide advice to pricing committees and business teams, and contribute to thought leadership in areas of expertise.
- Support training for lawyers and business teams so pricing decisions are made with confidence and professionalism.
- Stay flexible and available to support broader team initiatives and assist with client pricing work during peak demand or reduced capacity.
- Keep refining pricing approaches as delivery models evolve through GenAI and other technologies.
Working arrangement
The role is based in the office three days per week, with flexibility to align with partner meeting needs and support visibility and engagement.
Character and capability
You should bring strong influence skills, good judgement, a service-oriented mindset, and the confidence to take accountability in a fast-moving environment. The role also calls for adaptability, teamwork, empathy, trust-building, and accuracy under pressure.
Education and experience
Strong financial numeracy is essential. A qualified accountant is preferred. Experience with pricing in a client, legal, or consultancy setting is an advantage. Prior exposure to legal operations, legal project management, or a client-side legal function is also desirable.
Communication and practical skills
You should be able to communicate clearly in writing and verbally in a way that works for senior partner audiences. Strong modelling, data manipulation, financial reporting, project time management, networking, negotiation, and management experience are all important. Familiarity with SAP or Tableau is helpful.
Office and commercial skills
Advanced Excel and other finance-system skills are needed, along with solid commercial judgement, an understanding of how businesses make decisions, and knowledge of B2B fee structures. A thorough grasp of legal products and how their delivery models may change over time is central to the role.

The responsibilities listed here are not exhaustive and the role may include other related tasks as needed.
