Overview
The London Fire Brigade is inviting applications for a seasoned and proactive Press Officer to become a part of their dynamic Communications Team amid a notably busy period marked by heightened operational activity. As issues like wildfires, water shortages, and major incidents gain prominence across London, this position offers the chance to contribute significantly to delivering timely, precise, and impactful communications representative of a leading UK emergency service.
Contract Details
- Contract duration is for three months with a possibility of extension pending performance.
- Location requires hybrid work with presence in the Southwark office two days weekly.
- Remuneration is £26.47 per hour via PAYE or £34.37 per hour if paid through an Umbrella company.
Role Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary media liaison, managing both reactive and proactive communication efforts.
- Address daily media inquiries from various local, regional, and national outlets.
- Compose media statements, briefing documents, and official quotations representing London Fire Brigade executives.
- Arrange and facilitate media interviews efficiently.
- Collaborate with the Commissioner’s Office, Station Commanders, and Borough Commanders to craft and relay critical messaging.
- Support public safety initiatives, such as campaigns relating to wildfire prevention and water safety.
- Engage with social media strategies and digital outreach programs.
- Establish and nurture robust connections with journalists and other media stakeholders.
- Coordinate communication efforts with partner entities, including other emergency services and public sector organizations.
- Be available to attend on-site operational events to manage media activity and interviews.
- Seek and implement proactive media opportunities that highlight the Brigade’s achievements and work.
