Job description

About Vessev

Vessev is pioneering a new segment in marine transportation with hydrofoiling electric vessels that are designed to be environmentally friendly and offer superior performance. This New Zealand startup is gaining global traction and aims to create significant positive impact for both people and the planet.

Role Overview

This is a unique opportunity to influence the image of an innovative company from its early stages. As a key member of a passionate, compact marketing team, you will focus on top-level storytelling to establish Vessev's brand awareness, trust, credibility, and leadership within its category.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and own the PR strategy, ensuring consistent media coverage throughout the year.
  • Lead media relations for New Zealand, proactively pitching stories, and identifying topical hooks for Vessev.
  • Manage and coordinate PR contractors around the world.
  • Identify suitable award opportunities and oversee the entire submission process.
  • Create thought leadership content and opportunities for company executives.
  • Find and secure podcasts and speaking engagements to expand brand reach.
  • Assist in planning and executing events overseas.
  • Lead influencer and creator collaborations, working closely with the Social & Content Lead.
  • Collaborate on brand campaigns with the Head of Marketing, shaping messaging and delivery.
  • Write engaging, on-brand copy for websites, blogs, email marketing, and press releases.
  • Stay informed about industry developments, competitor activities, and trends to continually refine PR strategies.

Candidate Profile

You do not need specific expertise in marine, hydrofoiling, or electric transportation. What is important is your intelligence, willingness to contribute actively, and passion for meaningful work. As a PR professional with substantial marketing or brand experience, you appreciate how PR integrates within broader marketing initiatives. You are naturally inquisitive, eager to understand technical aspects, and adept at crafting compelling stories.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years' PR experience including broader marketing or brand exposure.
  • Proven experience in media relations, with enthusiasm for pitching and fostering journalist relationships.
  • Strong writing skills with a knack for storytelling and maintaining brand voice consistency.
  • Experience preparing award submissions and thought leadership materials.
  • Competence in project managing events.
  • Experience managing or collaborating with external contractors or agencies.
  • A proactive attitude with a readiness to handle diverse tasks.
  • Curiosity to learn and translate technical subjects into engaging stories.

About the Company Culture

Vessev is driven by a mission to foster cleaner air, enhanced commutes, and deeper connections with nature through innovative technology that reduces energy use by up to 90% compared to traditional boats. The team includes experts from top-tier organizations and operates with a philosophy valuing purpose, humility, and optimistic innovation. The workplace is primarily office-based in Auckland but supports flexibility based on individual needs.

Employee Benefits

  • Opportunity to build a distinctive and impactful product and workplace culture.
  • Work on technology with meaningful environmental and societal impact.
  • Collaborate with a talented and cooperative team.
  • Generous parental leave policies: 20 weeks fully paid for primary caregivers, 4 weeks for secondary caregivers (conditions apply).
  • Competitive remuneration reflecting the value of your contributions.
  • Work environment connected with water activities, located near the Tamaki River and offering regular access to vessels.
  • Community includes enthusiasts of boating, sailing, foiling, surfing, and kiteboarding.

Application Process

To apply, submit your CV along with a brief cover letter outlining your suitability and enthusiasm for this position.

Equal Opportunity Statement

Vessev encourages applications from women and under-represented groups, recognizing that candidates need not meet every qualification to be considered a strong fit. We seek to foster an inclusive environment where everyone can excel.
