Job Overview

Located physically in the Marshall Islands, this role supports LOGCAP operations by managing mail movement, sorting, and distribution. It involves issuing money orders, selling postage, and carrying out detailed accounting tasks under established procedures with minimal oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure security of all mail items at all times.
  • Handle loading and unloading of mail trucks; process incoming and outgoing mail including Pro-grade and Retro-grade mail at designated locations, verifying mail against manifests.
  • Separate accountable mail from regular mail.
  • Utilize x-ray equipment when available to randomly screen mailbags and parcels for hazardous or prohibited items, reporting concerns to supervisors.
  • Open and sort mail into authorized units or APOs; manage service mail such as insured and certified mail on postal delivery forms.
  • Conduct unit mail calls and assist unit mail clerks as needed.
  • Distribute incoming mail correctly, ensuring signatures for custody of service mail and reroute misdirected mail to proper destinations.
  • Repair damaged mail parcels and reseal opened envelopes, marking them accordingly.
  • Perform directory services and mail routing using established postal charts and instructions.
  • Manage postal supplies including inventory, ordering, and receiving at the assigned facility.
  • Retrieve outgoing mail from USPS drop-boxes, date stamping and consolidating items for dispatch.
  • Receive official outgoing mail from base mail sections.
  • Operate or learn to operate Point of Sales systems to provide postal financial services.
  • Offer customer support explaining available postal services.
  • Inspect parcels for non-mailable items as regulated by military standards.
  • Complete closeout procedures on outgoing mailbags and shipments ensuring correct documentation and labeling.
  • Maintain secure handling of mail during staging and transport, including sealing and logging seals on mail trucks.
  • Load outgoing mail onto shipment pallets and vehicles, preparing necessary manifests for dispatch custody transfer.
  • Ensure high security of postal facilities, escort unauthorized visitors within operational areas.
  • Perform additional company-approved duties such as safety representative or fire warden roles.
  • Maintain cleanliness and custodial upkeep of the mail facilities.
  • Carry out other related tasks and duties as assigned by company leadership.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • One year of pertinent experience may substitute for education if a degree is required.
  • Must successfully obtain and maintain NACI background check to qualify for Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Possession of a valid passport is required.
  • Preferred experience includes military postal service, USPS training, cargo shipping, parcel handling, warehousing, or mailroom distribution.
  • Basic computer literacy is essential.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Army and base postal procedures and operations.
  • Ability to organize, supervise, and control postal unit technical tasks.
  • Capability to implement workflow simplifications and oversee customs inspections conducted by authorities.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to command related to enlisted personnel matters.
  • Engage in inspections, personnel counsel, and command activities as directed.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Work predominantly outdoors; exposure to extreme weather and varying ambient temperatures is possible.
  • Job demands include lifting heavy loads possibly exceeding 100 pounds, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing and sitting.
  • Potential for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological hazards.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required in certain areas, including head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, eyesight, and hearing protection.
  • Compliance with OSHA, EPA, Fire regulations and company policies mandatory.
