About the role

The Planning Manager will oversee and develop a team of planners, making sure project planning, programme control, and performance tracking are delivered effectively across a portfolio of construction projects. The position will set strong planning standards, assist delivery teams, and provide programme-level oversight to the Head of Planning in Ireland.

Key responsibilities

You will lead planning activity across multiple projects, manage planner resources, and support consistent, high-performing delivery standards. The role also includes programme oversight, reporting, risk management, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of 4 to 6 planners across several projects
  • Assign planning resources to match project and business priorities
  • Build a culture of high performance, consistency, and continuous improvement
  • Carry out performance reviews, support career growth, and identify training needs
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and approval of detailed project schedules, including baseline programmes, updates, and revisions
  • Ensure programmes align with contract obligations and company standards
  • Contribute strategic input to tender programmes, sequencing, and methodology
  • Track project progress, highlight delays and risks, and put mitigation measures in place
  • Maintain strong programme controls, including progress measurement, earned value analysis, and KPI reporting
  • Prepare consolidated performance reports for the Head of Planning and senior leadership
  • Review programme data to spot trends, opportunities, and risks across projects
  • Work closely with project directors, construction managers, commercial teams, and clients
  • Help delivery teams manage client expectations around schedule and completion
  • Lead planning discussions in meetings, workshops, and review sessions
  • Identify schedule risks and ensure mitigation plans are created, tracked, and updated
  • Support delay analysis and extension of time claim assessments with the commercial team
  • Keep programme records accurate, complete, and audit-ready
  • Promote standard planning methods, tools, and reporting practices across projects
  • Encourage the use of digital planning solutions and innovation such as BIM integration, 4D planning, and QSRA

Requirements

The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, advanced planning expertise, and a solid understanding of construction delivery and contracts in Ireland.

  • Proven leadership and people management ability
  • Advanced experience with project planning and scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 and MS Project
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capability
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of construction contracts

  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Typically 8 to 12+ years of experience in construction planning
