Role summary
This position provides operational support for the rollout and day-to-day execution of Operation Risk Management (ORM) within mining and processing operations in Shurugwi.
Key duties
- Assist with coordinating the use of all four ORM risk management layers at site: baseline risk management, issue-based risk management, task risk management, and continuous risk management.
- Advise the operation on capability-building needs so employees and contractors can strengthen their skills in operational risk management.
- Set up, support, and sustain the operational risk management information platform.
- Track, monitor, and report operational risk performance to risk role holders and operational leaders, including regular site-based risk reports and preparation for management and control-owner reviews.
- Provide risk-based input that helps manage material risks, audit findings, and learning from incidents.
- Give ongoing guidance to operational line role holders, managers, and leaders on risk performance and the actions required to improve it.
- Develop and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships that help drive project support.
- Promote a purpose-led, high-performance culture that aligns with company values, encourages inclusion and diversity, supports engagement, and drives continuous improvement.
- Ensure adherence to Valterra Platinum standards and governance requirements.
Qualifications and experience
A relevant degree or diploma in Safety, Occupational Health, Natural Sciences, or an equivalent field is required. Professional certifications are an advantage, especially a risk qualification and a Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) systems audit qualification.
The role requires at least 5 years of experience in risk or Safety, Health and Environmental Officer roles, preferably in mining, metallurgy, or another heavy-industry setting.
Technical and professional requirements
- Practical experience with SHEQ management systems, including ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001.
- Working knowledge of risk assessment methods such as WRAC, Bow-tie Analysis, and JRAs.
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and Project.
- Good training, presentation, and facilitation ability.
- A clean Class 4 driver’s licence.
