Role Summary
Join the Gympie Regional Council libraries team to lead the growth and promotion of the local history collection, enhancing community engagement through innovative program delivery both physically and digitally. This is a full-time onsite role based in Gympie, Queensland, offering a competitive annual salary starting at $86,068 plus up to 15% superannuation along with substantial additional benefits.

Key Responsibilities
- Curate and expand a diverse and community-focused local history collection that accurately reflects the region’s heritage and contemporary importance, adhering to established collection management standards.
- Collaborate effectively with library personnel, stakeholders, volunteers, and the community to deliver specialist heritage projects and manage digital collections.
- Facilitate public access to local history resources by supporting users with technological tools, online databases, and digital platforms.
- Develop and present a variety of library programs that meet community needs, including children’s literacy events, digital skills training, and workshops for schools and community groups.
- Provide excellent customer service by assisting patrons with research inquiries, technology assistance, reader’s advice, and library promotional activities.
- Engage in continuous improvement of library branch procedures to enhance customer service delivery.
Qualifications and Skills
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Library and Information Studies, archival or museum studies, education, or equivalent experience in local history, heritage, archives, or community research services.
- Proven experience in collection development with the ability to evaluate the historic and community relevance of physical and digital assets.
- Confident with digital technologies including library systems, online databases, digitisation tools, and customer interaction platforms.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to accurately assist research, interpret historic records, and produce accessible local history content catered to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to present and facilitate engaging library programs including literacy and digital literacy sessions.
- Resilience, professionalism, and teamwork skills necessary to perform successfully in active, public-facing roles and to support volunteers.
