Mechanical Engineer

Job Overview

The Mechanical Engineer will oversee and coordinate all mechanical maintenance tasks within the plant, including both preventive and corrective activities. This role involves planning for shutdowns and overhauls while managing troubleshooting and modifications of mechanical equipment, ensuring compliance with maintenance schedules, safety protocols, and quality standards to guarantee plant uptime and machinery reliability.

Main Duties

• Supervise mechanical preventive, corrective, and overhaul maintenance operations ensuring adherence to safety procedures and efficiency.
• Ensure accurate SAP documentation of maintenance activities such as fault logs, repair methods, time, labor, and materials to maintain data availability.
• Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns, delivering corrective actions that minimize downtime and prevent financial losses.
• Promote a preventive maintenance approach by conducting root cause analyses and troubleshooting to reduce reactive repairs.
• Diagnose and resolve critical mechanical issues while maintaining compliance with quality and health, safety, and environment (HSE) standards.
• Analyze maintenance data and perform site studies to identify opportunities for equipment reliability improvements and plant efficiency.
• Prepare feasibility analyses for new installations, repairs, or modifications including technical specs, drawings, and cost estimates while following up on implementation outcomes.
• Coordinate manpower, budgeting, and materials forecasting for effective mechanical outage planning.
• Oversee mechanical shutdowns coordinating with OEM recommendations, ensuring goals for safety, scope, cost, and schedules are achieved.
• Ensure all maintenance documents are properly completed and support timely information flow.
• Uphold health, safety, security, and environmental regulations, facilitate safety training, and investigate incidents to prevent recurrence.
• Lead material management activities by preparing requirements plans and evaluating procurement quotations to select suitable materials and machinery.
• Maintain strong business relations with internal departments and external contractors, resolving technical issues and ensuring service quality and ethical standards.
• Manage SAP processes related to mechanical maintenance administration and data integrity in line with company standards.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and instructions.
• Supervise and guide the mechanical maintenance team to meet business objectives.
• Collaborate closely with Maintenance Manager, Engineering Section Head, Mechanical Supervisors, Technicians, Operations Team, contractors and vendors.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 7 to 10 years of mechanical maintenance experience in water desalination, power generation, or renewable plants, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

Required Skills

• Strong practical mechanical engineering knowledge and hands-on maintenance experience.
• Familiarity with downtime analysis and problem-solving methodologies.
• Expertise in maintenance management systems, predictive inspection tools, and CMMS, preferably SAP.
• Project management capabilities.
• In-depth understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance principles.
• Leadership skills with experience mentoring and managing teams.
• Insight into operations in water desalination, power generation, and company-specific processes.
• Excellent planning, organizational, coordination, and teamwork abilities.
