Overview
Join Biffa as a Maintenance Engineer at our Barrow-In-Furness location to collaborate with a skilled team in identifying and repairing machinery issues to minimize plant downtime. Our operation supports the transition towards a circular economy focused on reducing waste through innovative maintenance strategies and equipment development.
Work Schedule and Compensation
This role involves a 3-shift rotation over Monday to Friday with the following shifts cycling every two weeks: 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, and 10pm-6am. Overtime is compensated at a rate of 1.5 times the regular pay. The salary can reach up to £53,118 annually depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform plant upgrades and modifications maintaining required standards.
- Log all maintenance activities using a computerized management system.
- Develop and execute a planned preventative maintenance program to reduce downtime and address recurring faults through engineered solutions.
- Participate in scheduled maintenance shutdowns with prior notice.
- Coordinate with external contractors for specific repairs, occasionally on weekends.
- Adhere to and enforce all company policies, processes, and safety standards.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mechanical or Multi-Skilled Engineer within a process or production setting.
- Readiness to acquire new skills and adapt to evolving work environments.
- Formal qualifications like HNC/HND/C+G in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred but not mandatory; significant practical experience is vital.
- Some understanding of electrical principles is desirable.
- Experience operating under clear KPIs and commitment to continuous improvement in an operational context.
- Familiarity with large conveyors, chain drives, hydraulics, compactors, shredders, overhead cranes, and pneumatics is advantageous.
- Capability to thrive in a time-sensitive process environment with effective organizational and communication skills for interaction with varied audiences.
