Machine Learning Engineer - New Graduate

About the Role

Our partner company, based in Canada, is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer who is a recent graduate passionate about developing AI-powered consumer applications. This role involves working on cutting-edge machine learning systems such as large language models and generative AI that impact millions of users globally. The position offers full ownership of significant projects within a remote-first environment while collaborating with skilled engineers and cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and refine AI-driven features leveraging large language models and generative AI technologies to enhance user interaction.
• Collaborate across the AI engineering stack including prompt engineering, agent workflows, as well as model evaluation and optimization.
• Design and execute controlled experiments such as A/B testing and offline metrics to assess the impact on engagement, trust, and quality.
• Work closely with product and engineering teams to translate user requirements into scalable and effective ML solutions.
• Increase AI system dependability by monitoring performance, conducting quality assessments, establishing guardrails, and diagnosing failure modes.
• Enhance production AI systems focusing on performance, latency, cost-effectiveness, and scalability.
• Foster a culture of technical excellence through continuous experimentation, learning, and knowledge sharing.

Candidate Requirements

• Currently enrolled or recently graduated with a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, expecting to graduate in 2025 or 2026.
• Strong grasp of the mathematical principles underpinning machine learning algorithms.
• Experience or familiarity with large language model applications, transformer-based architectures, or related AI technologies.
• Proficient in Python or C++, with the capability to rapidly acquire new programming languages.
• Excellent written English skills, including the ability to critically assess tone, clarity, accuracy, and nuance in textual content.
• A motivated learner committed to ongoing growth, experimentation, and adopting new technologies.
• Effective collaboration skills in remote working setups, with availability during core hours (Monday to Friday, 9 AM–3 PM Pacific Time).
• Prior software engineering exposure through internships, competitive programming, or professional roles is advantageous.
• Experience building production-scale machine learning systems or AI agents is a plus.

• For Toronto and Vancouver, salaries range between CA$137,852 and CA$157,061, plus equity and benefits.
