About the Role
Join Aurecon as a Lead Electrical Engineer specializing in substations within our Energy & Industrial team, with opportunities based in Wellington, Auckland, or Hamilton. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of high-voltage (HV) substation systems including primary, cable, and earthing systems from initial concepts through to detailed engineering design stages.
- Provide technical leadership for cross-functional transmission and distribution projects across New Zealand and Australia.
- Prepare detailed design documentation such as reports, power system studies, project proposals, and budget estimates for complex engineering projects.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and internal team members to ensure successful project delivery.
- Mentor engineers and designers, supporting effective project planning, resource allocation, and program execution.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Possess relevant academic qualifications in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
- Bring over 12 years of experience designing transmission and distribution substations.
- Demonstrate strong familiarity with New Zealand and/or Australian utility standards, codes, and industry best practices.
- Have proven capability managing projects throughout all phases including planning, concept design, construction support, and commissioning.
- Exhibit excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide clear technical guidance and offer constructive challenges to assumptions.
