Junior Shift Manager

Role Purpose

Due to increased operational volumes and transition to a three-shift schedule, the Junior Shift Manager will support running the additional shift independently. This allows other Shift Managers to maintain regular 8-hour work schedules across their shifts instead of extended hours. You will lead a team of Champions who assist in meeting business goals and operational targets across your shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a full shift independently, ensuring smooth shift operations.
• Supervise Champions reporting to you, driving collaboration to achieve business objectives.
• Ensure outbound key performance indicators (KPIs) such as timely shipment of customer orders by 5 pm daily.
• Maintain adherence to and enforcement of service level agreements (SLA).
• Monitor picking and packing productivity, guaranteeing company targets are met.
• Control labor costs by efficiently managing workforce numbers relative to volume and shift hours.
• Manage packing materials usage to control departmental costs.
• Oversee housekeeping standards ensuring workspace organization and cleanliness.
• Set clear, measurable goals for team members and ensure understanding.
• Continuously assess and improve internal processes through innovation and iteration.
• Apply company core values consistently in all tasks and interactions.
• Achieve operating targets while managing budgets effectively and allocating resources appropriately.
• Embed safety procedures and social systems to maintain a safe working environment.
• Strive to reduce order processing lead times to enhance operational flow.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum National Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
• Preferred higher certificate in Supply Chain or Logistics.
• 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience within logistics or distribution settings.
• Proven people management skills with effective oral and written communication ability.
• Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Proven capability to implement change in a logistics operation.
• Commitment to meeting targets and adhering to project timelines.
• Willingness to work various shifts, including weekends, in a 7-day operational environment.
• Energetic self-starter with a proactive approach.
• Ability to collaborate within a multicultural team environment.
