Role Overview: Inspector I - Quality (Mechanical)
Positioned at the Abu Dhabi site, this role centers on meticulous mechanical equipment inspection (both static and rotating) throughout the construction phase, ensuring compliance with project and client requirements.
Key Accountabilities
- Conduct receiving inspections and verify preservation records for mechanical equipment delivered to the site.
- Regularly monitor storage and laydown areas to ensure appropriate equipment handling and preservation.
- Confirm equipment foundations have civil quality control approval before proceeding.
- Maintain and validate preservation documentation and oversee necessary equipment testing during storage.
- Ensure accessibility of equipment manuals onsite for procedural conformity.
- Oversee completion of all mechanical activities in alignment with client specifications.
- Evaluate mechanical work progress according to project timelines and standards; perform daily site audits to detect and report deviations.
- Witness and approve dimensional and alignment measurements, bolt torqueing, tightening, and tensioning procedures.
- Facilitate client inspection of mechanical works at the project site.
- Review certification and documentation of all equipment ensuring compliance with specifications, drawings, Manufacturing and Inspection Test Plans.
- Supervise cleaning, installation, erection, mounting, and quality assurance for rotating equipment and verify internal component installations including trays and cleanliness.
- Observe chemical and mechanical cleaning, flushing, drying, final assembly inspections, and catalyst or filter medium filling ensuring internal equipment cleanliness.
- Verify ambient conditions comply with project criteria during shaft alignments and confirm foundation and equipment alignment tolerances.
- Coordinate with civil inspectors for critical element inspection and release pre-pouring activities.
- Inspect prefabricated equipment assembly per manufacturer guidelines and verify pipe flange spacing before grouting.
- Confirm rotation direction indicators and verify pump operation orientation.
- Measure alignment fixture bracket sag prior to alignment inspections for documentation.
- Refer to manufacturer manuals to validate alignment parameters before base plate grouting.
- Ensure installation of ladders, stairs, handrails, and manholes meets requirements.
- Check grout materials and curing procedures for compliance with specifications.
- Witness inspections and testing related to HVAC systems and equipment load testing including cranes and hoists.
- Oversee final equipment box-up procedures.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
- Comprehensive understanding of International standards and codes, specifically ASME and API practices relevant to static, rotating equipment, and tanks.
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Quality Control Inspector, preferably in the oil and gas or petrochemical sectors.
- Past engagement with major EPC contractors or their subcontractors.
