Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Design Technology Technician to support our IBDP/HSD programs. This full-time, permanent role operates onsite under the Academic department and reports to the Head of Secondary. The technician is pivotal in preparing resources, equipment, and managing workshop operations to facilitate Design & Technology lessons focused on a variety of materials and digital technologies.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organize tools, materials such as wood, metals, plastics, art supplies, and electronic components for Design & Technology classes.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain workshop machinery including saws, drills, sanders, and advanced equipment like laser cutters, 3D printers, and CNC machines.
  • Conduct regular inspections, perform routine maintenance, and report any issues or safety concerns related to DT equipment to the Head of Department.
  • Manage ordering, inventory, and stock levels of tools and consumables ensuring timely availability for lessons and projects.
  • Offer technical assistance during practical sessions, guiding staff and students on safe and correct tool usage.
  • Ensure the workshop environment remains organized, clean, and safe by properly storing tools, sharp objects, and hazardous materials.
  • Support preparation of display materials, models, and exemplar projects to enhance teaching and student learning.
  • Provide basic IT support focused on Design Technology software, assisting with file preparation for laser cutting and 3D printing processes.
  • Maintain detailed records including equipment usage logs, maintenance schedules, and safety inspections.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in a similar Design Technology or technical support role.
  • Strong understanding of modern Design Technology concepts, materials, product design, and digital design tools.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory for effective communication within the school environment.
