General Manager - Engineering

Overview

NZS Group is expanding within the commercial, industrial, and infrastructure sectors and is enhancing its engineering leadership team to support this growth. The company seeks a senior executive from the scaffolding or temporary works industry with a strong comprehension of how engineering design, methodologies, and best practices contribute to safe, effective, and commercially viable project delivery. Candidates should have practical experience with scaffold design, construction, and review, and be adept at interpreting plans and guiding teams through complex builds.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide engineering leadership across the group by directing job scoping, designing, and planning for projects requiring engineering input.
• Set and maintain design standards, oversee peer reviews, and ensure compliance with methodologies especially for high-risk work.
• Elevate the group's design capabilities by leading training initiatives, coaching teams, and ensuring consistent use and maintenance of design software tools and libraries.
• Serve as the essential link between the Engineering and Operations teams, managing expectations, prioritizing engineering efforts, and translating design intent into buildable, practical solutions that balance compliance and operational realities.
• Manage engineering team workload allocation to optimize engagement on priority projects and customers.
• Promote innovation and adoption of digital engineering technologies such as BIM, building scans, enhancing tender accuracy and delivery planning.
• Maintain and enforce corporate engineering policies and procedures, driving consistent application and ongoing improvements.
• Conduct site inspections to verify that projects comply with design requirements; identify and address capability gaps through training.

• Strong internal design capabilities embedded in pricing, planning, and project delivery processes.
• Effective utilization of NZS Group Engineers for design reviews and methodology consultation.
• Efficient collaboration between Engineering and Operations with clear communication, practical solutions, and successful execution.

Candidate Profile

• Experience with scaffolding, temporary works, and engineering design disciplines.
• Proven leadership capabilities including managing technical teams and influencing multiple stakeholders.
• Ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment involving various companies and disciplines.

Additional Information

The salary range is $130,000 to $180,000 NZD annually, with higher compensation for candidates holding formal engineering qualifications. The position may be based in Auckland or Wellington.
