About Xe
Xe is a global cross-border payments platform serving SMEs and consumers across the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The platform helps people collect, convert, hold, and transfer money between markets, with millions relying on Xe for currency information and hundreds of thousands using it to send money internationally each year.
The company is rebuilding the core platform that powers its cross-border payments experience for both business and consumer customers. The environment is compact, so your work ships quickly and your decisions have real impact. Xe is supported by Euronet Worldwide (Nasdaq: EEFT), which gives the team the backing to work on problems at meaningful scale.
Role Overview
Xe is looking for a mid-level full-stack engineer who enjoys taking ownership of meaningful problems from start to finish, including API design, user-facing experience, backend services, production stability, and delivery. The role expects you to already use AI tools as part of how you plan, build, test, and release software.
You will develop code that runs in production for money movement, improve and modernize the platform across the stack, and deliver customer-facing functionality as the platform layer is rebuilt. You will work closely with a small engineering team and have direct contact with product, design, and compliance. The role includes ownership of services in production, making decisions within your own area, and collaborating with architects and team leads on broader technical choices.
What You Will Do
- Develop and release features across the stack for money movement and multi-currency balance management, including areas such as onboarding, KYC, KYB, payment initiation, FX, settlement, and related supporting services.
- Deliver customer-facing product improvements that users interact with every day, from the interface layer down to the services behind it.
- Take responsibility for services running in production, including reliability, monitoring, on-call duties, and incident handling.
- Work with product, design, and compliance teams from initial problem definition through to launch.
- Use AI-assisted coding tools such as Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar tools every day for prototyping, refactoring, testing, and documentation.
- Support platform modernization by moving selected parts of legacy services into the modern stack in partnership with architects and team leads.
Requirements
- Between 3 and 6 years of experience building production web applications end to end.
- Strong capability on the frontend, ideally with Vue.js, React, or a similar framework.
- Strong backend development experience, preferably with C#/.NET; other object-oriented languages such as Java, Kotlin, Go, or similar are also acceptable.
- Good understanding of SQL and relational databases.
- Comfort with writing and maintaining tests as part of the delivery process.
- Daily use of AI-powered coding tools such as Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or equivalent across the software development lifecycle.
- Hands-on production experience with AWS, including deployment work and services such as SQS, DynamoDB, S3, ECS, and Lambda.
- Solid computer science foundations and a practical approach to system design.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate well across engineering, product, and design.
Nice to Have
- Experience in payments, foreign exchange, or regulated industries.
- Background with service-oriented or microservices architectures.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and modern release practices.
- Good frontend fundamentals, including responsive design, accessibility, web performance, and internationalization.
- Familiarity with caching systems such as Memcached or Redis.
- Experience with collaboration and documentation platforms like Jira and Confluence.
- Knowledge of API testing tools such as Postman or Bruno.
- Experience writing automated tests alongside development while using AI tools such as Claude Code or similar.
Perks & Benefits
- Paid day off on your birthday.
- Additional annual leave earned with each year of service, up to 5 extra days.
- Employer KiwiSaver contributions on top of salary.
- Healthcare coverage.
- Discounted Euronet ESPP.
- A volunteering day for a charity of your choice.
- Office fruit, snacks, drinks, and a coffee machine.
- Access to mental health and wellbeing support through Plumm.
