Overview
Lancashire Constabulary seeks a skilled and organised Fingerprint Bureau Manager to oversee forensic identification services at their Hutton Headquarters. This role demands leadership in delivering efficient forensic examinations, staff supervision, expert contribution to forensic disciplines, and deputising for the Head of Forensic Operations when necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Fingerprint Bureau team by supervising, encouraging, and providing training to enhance performance and expertise.
- Serve as an expert in fingerprint-related forensic disciplines and act as deputy for the Head of Forensic Operations.
- Monitor submission volumes and resource allocation; report management data to senior leadership, while continuously seeking improvements to meet increasing demands.
- Interpret and communicate scientific and opinion-based forensic findings effectively via Scientific Findings Reports (SFRs), official statements, detailed reports, and court appearances as an Expert Witness in fingerprint comparison cases.
Required Skills and Experience
- A degree or equivalent credentials in a scientific discipline, such as membership in a relevant professional body or at least 10 years of forensic unit experience.
- Completion of Fingerprint Expert training certification.
- Possession of a full valid UK manual driving licence and willingness to pass the Constabulary Basic Driver Assessment to operate a Constabulary vehicle.
Additional Conditions
- Recruitment Vetting is mandatory, including a minimum three-year UK residency and being at least 18 years of age at application.
- Successful candidates must pass a medical evaluation and provide DNA samples for the Contamination Elimination Database.
- A fingerprint aptitude test lasting around three hours will be required during the interview phase.
