About the Role
Join Te Whare Hauora o UC | UC Health Centre based in Christchurch, New Zealand as a part-time Counsellor working 22.5 hours weekly. This permanent 0.6 FTE role offers 5 weeks annual leave plus 5 university holidays, professional development opportunities, and generous superannuation contributions up to 6.75% by the employer.
Role Responsibilities
In this position, you will utilize your counselling expertise to provide timely, student-centred services aimed at enhancing student wellbeing and academic achievement. Operating within professional and ethical guidelines, you will evaluate presenting issues, apply brief and solution-focused treatment, create suitable care plans, and handle situations involving student risk and urgency. Accurate clinical documentation and collaboration with other health professionals for referrals or consultation are essential. Additionally, you will promote counseling services within the university, contribute to wellbeing initiatives, and assist in developing and facilitating workshops or group sessions that build student resilience and awareness.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a qualified, registered counselling professional experienced in supporting diverse individuals, who demonstrates a collaborative, culturally sensitive approach and thrives in multidisciplinary environments.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Counselling or a related field.
- Current professional registration or membership with a recognized body.
- Strong clinical record-keeping capabilities, encompassing case notes and report writing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills enabling effective teamwork and consultation.
- Knowledge of health-related legislation and regulations including Health and Disability Code and privacy laws.
- Experience with clinical or medical database systems (e.g., Medtech) is advantageous.
- Alignment with organizational values promoting a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Work Environment
You will be part of the UC Health Centre team, which delivers medical, counselling, and related services to university students and the wider community, working alongside doctors, nurses, counsellors, and health coaches.
