Controller (m/w/d)

Position Overview

We are seeking a part-time Controller to join our Berlin-based team. This permanent position ranges from 20 to 32 hours per week (50% to 80% workload), with specific hours to be agreed upon. You will be instrumental in managing the financial aspects of our diverse and project-based organization that commissions artists and collaborates with various international partners.

About LAS Art Foundation

LAS Art Foundation is a non-profit established to support innovative artistic practices intersecting with technology. Our projects span quantum computing, space exploration, AI, ecology, and biotech, presented through installations, performances, educational formats, publications, and research collaborations. Operating since 2019, we work from Berlin, often utilizing venues like Kraftwerk Berlin, Halle am Berghain, and the Museum für Naturkunde.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee project controlling for artistic productions, ensuring budget alignment with actual expenditures.
• Develop and manage budget, liquidity, and forecasting for the entire organization, including comparative analyses between budget and actuals.
• Prepare regular management reports for the CFO and budget holders on a monthly and quarterly basis, along with ad-hoc analyses supporting decision-making.
• Collaborate closely with accounting staff who handle bookkeeping and liaise with tax advisors; you will ensure consistency between controlling and accounting figures.
• Monitor compliance with German non-profit law regarding fund usage and restricted project funding.
• Enhance controlling processes and reporting standards continuously.

Candidate Profile

• Degree in business administration, economics, or equivalent qualification via training and professional experience.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in controlling, preferably within project-driven or non-profit organizations.
• Strong grasp of financial planning, controlling, and accounting principles.
• Basic knowledge or willingness to rapidly learn German non-profit legislation.
• Familiarity with accounting and finance software, ideally DATEV, and proficiency in Microsoft 365.
• Proficient in German (minimum level C1) and good command of English (at least B2).
• Methodical, accurate, and autonomous work style, able to communicate complex financial topics clearly.
• Genuine interest in interdisciplinary projects combining art, science, and technology.
