About the Company
MSL Engineering Ltd. is a prominent Mechanical Engineering contractor specialising in delivering intricate mechanical systems and process infrastructure projects in sectors such as Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Semiconductor, and Data Centre.
Role Summary
We are seeking a seasoned Commercial Manager to oversee all commercial elements of multiple mechanical engineering projects, starting from the tender phase through to final account settlement. This senior leadership position demands strong expertise in mechanical construction, familiarity with Life Science, Data Centre, and Semiconductor environments, and a track record of enhancing project profitability while mitigating risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct all commercial operations across a range of mechanical engineering projects.
- Handle project budgets, cost controls, forecasting cash flow, and generate financial reports.
- Assess project outcomes against commercial goals and uncover margin improvement opportunities.
- Compile monthly cost reports and communicate commercial results to senior leadership.
- Examine, negotiate, and manage client and subcontractor contracts to ensure compliance and risk management.
- Administer change controls, manage claims, variations, and final account submissions.
- Advise project teams on contractual matters and maintain documentation to support commercial claims.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and Engineering units to accomplish commercial targets.
- Engage in project reviews and commercial governance meetings to monitor risks affecting cost, schedule, or profitability.
- Foster and sustain strong client connections in the Pharmaceutical, Life Science, and Semiconductor sectors and serve as the primary commercial liaison.
- Lead contract discussions and negotiations with clients and subcontractors.
- Guide and mentor Quantity Surveyors and other commercial staff, cultivating commercial awareness throughout project teams.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and best practice implementations within the commercial function.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A university degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 8 to 10 years of experience in commercial management, senior quantity surveying, or leadership roles within commercial teams.
- Demonstrated expertise in delivering projects in Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Semiconductor Facilities, or Data Centre environments.
- Profound understanding of construction contracts and experience managing large mechanical projects valued between 5 million and over 100 million euros.
- Strong commercial acumen including financial oversight, negotiation prowess, and stakeholder relationship management.
Preferred Attributes
- Professional chartered status such as MRICS, SCSI, CIOB, or similar.
- Background working in EPCM and Design & Build project settings.
- Familiarity with the industrial construction industry in Ireland, the UK, or Europe.
- Previous experience collaborating with multinational pharmaceutical and semiconductor clients.
