Job description

Position Overview

The Autonomic Unit at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a premier centre recognized both nationally and internationally for autonomic disorder diagnosis and treatment, is seeking a Clinical Autonomic Scientist/Practitioner or trainee. This role supports a multidisciplinary healthcare science team performing specialized physiological diagnostics to aid in patient diagnosis and therapy.

Role Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive physiological tests focused on autonomic nervous system functions, assessing patients with neurological and other medical conditions.
  • Perform venepuncture and cannulation for blood sample collection and processing for specialist plasma biochemical analysis.
  • Engage patients empathetically, obtaining informed consent and explaining test procedures, purposes, and possible outcomes, occasionally utilizing interpreter services.
  • Compile clear, factual, and timely reports and summaries in clinical case notes, presenting findings verbally during consultants’ ward rounds and to multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements and Skills

  • A caring individual capable of effective communication and direct patient interaction.
  • Self-motivated and able to pursue independent learning.
  • Experience or skills in phlebotomy and specialist autonomic testing are advantageous but not mandatory as full training is provided.
